Photo Rejuvenation

Are you feeling a little self-conscious about your skin? Do you want to reduce the appearance of sun damage, dark spots, rosacea or broken blood vessels — or simply want to look more refreshed and youthful? You may want to consider photo skin rejuvenation, one of the latest dermatologic methods of eliminating redness, blotches, dark spots and facial lines. Read on for more about this treatment, including its benefits and what to expect if you opt for it.

How Photo Rejuvenation Improves Your Skin’s Appearance

Photo rejuvenation treatment involves the use of a specially designed laser that targets either red blood cells or melanin, which is the brown pigment that causes freckles and sun spots. The laser’s light beams pass through the surface of your skin and damage the blood cells or melanin. Your body then absorbs the damaged tissue, which makes skin imperfections less visible.

What Should I Expect From Photo Rejuvenation Treatment?

Laser photo rejuvenation has a number of advantages. It’s effective, often producing noticeable results in just a few treatments. Any discomfort is usually mild — it feels like snapping a small rubber band against your skin — and lessens with each consecutive treatment.

Every patient is different but most people who opt for photo rejuvenation can expect to require three to five treatments, spaced about four to six weeks apart. When you arrive at our office, you’ll be seated comfortably in a treatment room. After you’re given special glasses to protect your eyes, the area of your skin to be treated is covered with a cool gel. The handpiece of the laser then pulses light against your skin for between 30 and 60 minutes, although some treatments may last longer depending on the area being treated.

You may experience mild redness and swelling immediately after the treatment, but this usually abates quickly. There’s no need for aftercare — you’re free to immediately resume your daily activities, including wearing makeup and sunscreen. In the days and weeks after treatment, you should see a gradual improvement in your skin.
